Bianca Maria Milite of Yonkers passed away at her residence on Sunday, August 13, 2023.
Bianca Maria Milite born August 5, 1928 daughter of Sabato and Filomena one of 5 children. She began her life in a small town in the province of Salerno Italy. Montecorvino Rovella was then and is now still known for its rolling hills and quaint village charm. It was not the most connected even then so getting an education meant travel to the big city and the University of Salerno, one of the first Universities of Europe. Bianca’s determination to do that was clear and she progressed quickly with honors through to a graduate degree in Italian. Her career now required a competitive exam to get a job in teaching which she surmounted strongly and was awarded a position which she kept for over 10 years.
Life has its twists and turns and although she never planned on a transatlantic repositioning along came Mario Milite a physician who swept her off her feet and was determined that the USA and Bronx, New York was the place for them to start a family and a career for him awaited.
Bianca then reinvented herself to the job of homemaker. Taken for granted by some, the job was taken on aggressively by her with no job or task too great. Sewing clothes, canning and expert cooking seemed to come easy to her but she confided at times that she did not know what she was doing when she started. She managed the family while her husband handled his practice. Rearing 3 children was in the cards.
Bianca eventually became a US citizen, a goal of hers. She was proud of that achievement and her right to vote. She did have heart strings pulling at her from her native Italy and much of her family who were left behind.
Bianca never forgot her love of teaching and she enjoyed helping her children perfect an essay or explore a book. Her expertise in English was sharpened over time. If she was able to teach some Italian as well, all the better. She was no slack in mathematics either and able to review a tax return for mistakes with agility.
Bianca is survived by her children Guido, Claudio, and Fulvia. The joy she had seeing and holding her grandchildren was by far the top. Julia, Alex, Luke and Irene brought a smile to her even when she had trouble remembering details. Her family, especially her son Guido, helped through many difficult times as did the aides who cared for her during debilitation and became part of our family.
