Cynthia Mele Obituary

Cynthia Ann Mele, 79, of Hawthorne, New York, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2026.

Cynthia was born on May 15, 1946, in White Plains, New York, to Louis and Ann Compiglione. A family legacy of all living within close towns, Cynthia grew up surrounded by love from her parents, sister Carol, grandparents, and cousins. She grew up in tradition with a love for her Italian heritage. As a lifelong resident of Hawthorne, she was a proud member of the first graduating class of Westlake High School.

A love story that is admired by all, Cynthia and Michael J. Mele Sr. met at a young age. At first sight, Cynthia knew Michael was the one she would marry, and in September 1965, that loving marriage came to be. Together, by each other’s sides, they built a beautiful life and a sturdy home. That love carried on through the birth of their three beautiful children, Michael Jr., Robert, and Denise. The five of them enjoyed making countless memories together as a family that are treasured to this day.

The Mele house was always filled with love, music, laughter, yummy snacks, and fun times. Cynthia attended cosmetology school and worked as a hairdresser for many years, a profession that reflected her creativity and love of connecting with others. After raising her beautiful children, she dedicated over 30 years of service to Hudson Valley Eye in Hawthorne, where she became a familiar presence to many. Cynthia understood how to make life bright despite many challenges that came her way. She filled her life with cherished lifelong friendships, travel, and being a dedicated mother and Mimi.

Cynthia was predeceased by her beloved husband, Michael J. Mele Sr., and her son, Michael J. Mele Jr. She is survived by her loving son, Robert L. Mele and his wife, Tanya; her daughter, Denise M. Mele-Lubrino and her husband, Raymond; and her daughter-in-law, Heidi. She is also survived by her seven adored grandchildren: Michael III, Stephanie, Robert Jr., Rachel, Raymond Jr., Maya, and Odessa, who brought her immense pride and joy.

The most important thing in Cynthia’s life was her family. She always took the time to be there for each and every one of them, especially during holidays and celebrations, creating amazing memories that will be cherished forever. Cynthia will be remembered for her warmth, strength, resilience, devotion, and the love she gave so freely. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, Mimi, and friend. She will be deeply missed and forever held in the hearts of those who loved her.
