Daniel C. Stangarone, (Poppy), 91, of Hawthorne, New York, passed into peace on April 8, 2023. Dan was born in Yonkers, New York, to John and Sabatina (Gasparre) Stangarone. Dan graduated from Saunders Trade and Technical School where he learned his life-long skill of being able to fix anything. A proud US Army veteran, Dan served in the Korean War, earning a United Nations Service Medal, a National Defense Service Medal, and a Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star. Dan served the Yonkers Fire Department for 32 years until his retirement. For 24 years, he rode Engine 306 in his beloved Nodine Hill section of Yonkers and finished his career on Engine 314 for his last 8 years. Dan was an avid fisherman who loved being on the water, whether it was the Long Island Sound or the waters and shores of Montauk. He loved metal detecting, even before it was cool. Dan was also a talented artist who enjoyed oil painting, woodworking, and playing blues on his guitar. The Yankees were always on when they were playing. He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Agnes (Schaentzler); his children, Dana Duff and Danny (Michelle) Stangarone; grandchildren Tiva (Jamie) Lovemark, Adeline (David) Rousseau, Em, Daniel, and Matthew Stangarone; great-grand daughter, Teddi; and sister Mina Tulli. He was predeceased by his brother Frank and sisters Grace Mangini and Angelina DelCostello, all of Yonkers.
A note of gratitude for the staff at Phelps Hospital Hospice for the comfort and care they provided Dan in his last days.
Arrangements and care are being provided by Pleasant Manor Funeral Home 575 Columbus Avenue - Thornwood, New York 10594 with a Funeral Mass and service upcoming.
