Dr. Thomas Mathew

Doctor Thomas Mathew passed away on Friday, November 3rd, 2023.  He was born on April 18, 1938 in Pettayil, Thumpamon to father T. George Mathew and mother Anna (nee Alexander).  He came to the US in 1966 after earning his medical degree at the Kasturba Medical College in Manipal, Karnataka, INDIA. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at Pontiac General Hospital in Pontiac, MI, after which he finished his Cardiology fellowship at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, MI.  He went on to practice cardiology at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital and Pontiac General Hospital.  Over the course of his 46 years in practice, he taught numerous fellows, residents and medical students, was honored by multiple teaching awards, and cared for thousands of patients over his lifetime. Following the Covid pandemic, he and his wife came to live with his son, daughter-in-law, and grandson, where he enjoyed his last years.

He is survived by his wife May (Ramani,nee Mani),his daughter Anna Joseph (Dr. Jacob Joseph), granddaughter Tanya of Fort Smith, AR; his son Dr. George Mathew (Dr. Bindu Mathew (nee Ninan), grandson Benjamin of Thornwood, NY; and his sister Mrs. Saramma Ittycheria (nee Mathew) of Trivandrum, Kerala.  His family and friends will remember him as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated physician to his patients.  Thank you all for coming to celebrate his life and honor his memory.

Family and friends are invited to Pleasant Manor Funeral Home, Inc. 575 Columbus Avenue - Thornwood, New York 10594 on Friday, November 10, 2023 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM for visitation. Funeral services will be held at Pleasant Manor Funeral Home, Inc. 575 Columbus Avenue - Thornwood, New York 10594 on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 10:00 AM, officiated by Fr. Sebastian of Holy Rosary Church in Hawthorne.  Thomas will be laid to rest in his family plot at The Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla following the funeral services.
