Eileen Theresa Moran, Forest Hills, New York, 73, passed away peacefully, on Friday, March 11, 2022, at White Plains Hospital in White Plains, NY. Eileen was born in the Bronx, New York on October 15, 1948 to Marie (nee McGirl) and John Moran. She narrowly escaped being named Geraldine in favor of Eileen Theresa and was always following in the footsteps of her older brother Jackie and sister Mary Ann, despite them leaving her behind one rainy day in kindergarten. Seven years after her birth, she was given a partner in crime - their younger brother Thomas. The four Moran children enjoyed many a cream soda, baked potato, and adventures with their dear friends and Moran, McGirl, Hunt, and Vahey cousins throughout the four quadrants of Parkchester. Eileen attended St. Helena's Elementary school, Cardinal Spellman High School, Hunter College and Pace University with degrees in accounting and an MBA. After college she earned her CPA license, despite needing to attend summer school for geometry while at Spellman, and began her long career as a certified public accountant. She worked in the accounting field throughout her career at places including Tandem Financial, the City of New York, but spent most of her career up until her retirement in 2010 working for the New York City Comptroller’s office. Upon her retirement from her position as Chief Accountant/Bureau Chief at the NYC Comptroller’s Office, she continued her accounting work but this time volunteering her expertise to helping others, sometimes even family members, to file their taxes.
Eileen enjoyed being active and was an inspiration to so many. Whether it be in marathon long ping pong and Tetris tournaments despite the grumbling of nieces and nephews, back and forth match points between thrown rackets and sibling insults that mostly ended in a celebratory drink at the bar, or countless hours gobbling up ghosts and cherries to get that high Ms. Pac-Man score, she always made time for friends and family and enjoyed life. She was proud to have run in the NYC Marathon, and she also climbed the 100+ floors of the former Twin Towers. She was a force to be reckoned with and devoted her life to ensuring that those she loved and cared for knew just how much she cared. Her absence will be greatly felt, but most deeply by her best friend, sister, and partner in crime, Mary Ann. Their bond was unbreakable and their love and loyalty to each other is forever. Many an Irish joke was shared on Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day in the loving company of Tom and Franceen Vahey, Erin, Chip, Kaitlin and Ryan McGill, and Tommy and Claudia Vahey. Throughout her life she had many adventures with many dear friends. Her decades long friendships with Jane, Patty, Helene, Joanie, and Sheila always ended with lots of laughter and great food. Eileen's fierce loyalty and amazing talents will be sorely missed by all. Eileen is survived by her brother Jackie (John), her sister Mary Ann (née Moran) and spouse James Wright, her sister-in-law Patricia (née White), her nieces and nephews, Christina and spouse Seth Riseman, Katherine and spouse Jim Hunter, Jennifer and spouse Joe Bello, Carolyn and spouse Anthony Richards, and John Moran and spouse Katie (née Sheehy). She will always be remembered as Aunt Oso and Great Aunt Eileen to her great-nieces and nephews Erin, Theresa, and William Hunter, Madison and Justin Bello, Anthony and Riley Richards, and grandniece and grandnephew pups, Bailey and Milo Riseman, and Jack, Reba, and Chachi Moran. She is also survived by numerous cousins and friends whom she treasured and would always be there in their times of adventure or need. She is predeceased by her parents Marie (née McGirl) and John Moran, and younger brother Thomas Moran.
Always remember to forget
The things that made you sad.
But never forget to remember
The things that made you glad.
May we never forget all the moments of joy that brought us gladness spent in Eileen’s company.
