Elizabeth (Darcy) McGovern

Elizabeth McGovern (nee Darcy) passed away in her 95th year on Wednesday, September 29, 2021.  She was born May 5, 1926 in Drumcarra, Foxfield Co. Leitrim. Was the second of six daughters born to John and Mary Ellen Darcy. Mom immigrated to America in March of 1947. It was always her dream to live in America. She met dad in 1952 in the Leitrim House Dance Club in Manhattan and they married in 1954. they raised eight children in the Bronx and later proud grandparents of eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Kindness, humor, patience and a very religious woman describes our mother and how she lived her life.
She always prayed for a peaceful death and that is what God granted her. She died the way she lived her life in peace. We will always miss you and love you mommy, but know that you are happy in heaven with daddy and Tom and all our dear family members who have left us. “Ar dheis De go raibh a hanam”. May her soul be at the right hand of God.

In lieu of flowers if you wish to to make a donation in mommy’s memory her favorite charity was the Lighthouse in Manhattan for the blind.

Family and friends are invited to Pleasant Manor Funeral Home, Inc. 575 Columbus Avenue Thornwood, New York on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 from 9:00 - 11:00 AM for visitation.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Elizabeth at Holy Rosary Church in Hawthorne on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at 11:30 AM.  Elizabeth will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband Peter who predeceased her on March 30, 2008 at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
