Filomena Acocella

Filomena Acocella departed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on July 24, 2024, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. Filomena was born April 1, 1936, in Andretta, Italy, to Antonio and Angelina DiGuglielmo. She was a loving wife to Michele Acocella, her husband of 65 years. Together they built a home filled with warmth and love while raising four children. Filomena encouraged, supported, and helped her husband run a successful business. Filomena filled every moment of her 88 years with love and a great devotion to family. She instilled a legacy of kindness and compassion that will be shared through generations. 

As a mother, Filomena was a source of consistent support and boundless love for her children: Pasqual (Carol O'Neil) Acocella, Angela (Joe) Monforte, Michael (Susette) Acocella and Cathy Manginelli. Her love was unconditional without judgment.

Her grandchildren meant the world to her, and she cherished every moment spent with them: Michael, Vincent, Jennifer, Danielle, Jesse, Michelle, Julie Ann, John, Katie (Bill) Belair and great-grandson Everett. She is also remembered by her loving brother Michele DiGuglielmo and sister-in-law Maria, nieces, nephews and many friends who were touched by her welcoming and companionate soul.  

Filomena had a passion for cooking, sewing, and traveling. Her kindness and joy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her memory will continue to be a guiding light for our family, reminding us of the power of love, the importance of family, and the strength that comes from facing life's challenges with grace.  

The family expresses deep gratitude to all who have supported them during this time of loss.

Forever in our hearts, Filomena will be deeply missed but never forgotten. May her soul rest in eternal peace.  
 

Family and friends are invited to Pleasant Manor Funeral Home, Inc. 575 Columbus Avenue - Thornwood, New York 10594 on Sunday, July 28, 2024 from 2:00 - 7:00 PM for visitation.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Filomena at Holy Rosary Church in Hawthorne on Monday, July 29, 2024 at 11:00 AM.  Filomena will be laid to rest in her family crypt at The Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, New York following the funeral mass.
