George Gliksman passed away on December 31, 2025 after a long battle with numerous health issues. He was born on February 17, 1941 to Boleslaw and Bronislawa (Bayer) Gliksman in Pinsk, Belarus. George was raised in Poland and emigrated to the United States in 1963. He married the love of his life, Grazyna (Szmidt), and they had two daughters.
George enjoyed traveling, playing tennis, skiing, sailing, scuba diving, and many other activities. But most of all, he was a family man - a devoted husband whose deep love, loyalty, and commitment to his wife were evident throughout his life. This was undoubtedly the foundation of his family. George took great pride in being a father and was deeply devoted to his daughters. His legacy lives on through his family. He is survived by his two daughters, Agatha Gliksman and Isabelle Gliksman who were the center of his life and a constant source of pride. He was also a loving grandfather to Vivienne Munnelly and Lukas Munnelly, whose success in school, as well as on the lacrosse field and on the soccer pitch, were a source of great joy, pride, and unwavering dedication to him. George will also be deeply missed by his large extended family, numerous friends, and former colleagues at CUNY - where he worked for almost five decades. He was pre-deceased by his loving wife, Grazyna, his sister, Izabella Rutkowski, and his parents.
Our beloved George dedicated more than four decades of his life to higher education. He worked at the City University of New York, committing himself to the academic success of thousands of students in that system. In lieu of flowers, we have provided the link below for donations in his name to the Borough of Manhattan Community College, where he cherished his role as an adjunct professor early in his career. Your generous contributions will assist in providing scholarships to young minds seeking to improve their lives. This was George's lifelong commitment and there is no better way to celebrate his memory and legacy.
