Grace Cetti Darpa is at peace. She passed away on April 22, 2023 after a lifetime of unending love and generosity of spirit, always taking care of others.
She leaves behind three of her four sisters (Carmela, Tina, Rita; Aurora predeceased her), and a beautiful legacy in her children (Christine, Gregory, Karen), her stepchildren (Deborah, Bob) her grandchildren (Buddy, Anthony, Frances, Steven, Samantha, Jaclyn, Christie, Andrew, Jessica), and her great grandchildren (Aiden, Lacey, and Serena), along with her cat, Snappy. We expect her husband, Bob, will have greeted her at the pearly gates with a big smile.
Grace was born in Sicily in 1943 to Gustavo and Rosa Cetti and landed in Brooklyn in 1953 as a scrappy 10-year-old who spoke no English. She quickly became a straight A student with a lifelong passion for reading and independent thinking.
She taught Catechism, co-led Girl Scouts, wore Chanel No. 5, cooked like a chef, and appreciated the occasional whiskey sour. She was a tour de force, capable of raising a family on a shoestring budget, and carrying the weight of a mountain on her 4-foot 8-inch frame. She was the strongest woman around.
Our hearts are broken.
