Helen Fitzgerald Obituary

Helen  was born on December 15, 1922 in New York City she was one of nine children to Mary and Philip Semiken who met on the boat coming over from Austria and Russia.  Helen was the youngest of 9 children. She was the last remaining sibling of all of the children. Helen worked as a female defense worker one of the original Rosie the Rivter’s. She met her husband Lawrence at a dance club on 86th street and they married on February 27, 1944 and settled down in New York City. They had three children Kathleen (John), Kevin (Joan) and Thomas (Paulette) and then three grandchildren Moria (Gafar), Jennifer (Steve) and Erik (Alison). The family grew to add three great grandchildren, Adelynn, MacKenzie, and Nikolai all who brought her great joy.
Helen loved doing needlework and was very good at it and many of her works were on the walls of her families homes.  She loved traveling with her husband through the years all over Europe. She was a great cook and especially love to cook for Christmas Eve.
Helen lived independently well into her 90s and prided herself on her ability to take care of herself,  the last years of her life were spent in the loving care of the nuns a Jeanne Jugan Residence.  She spent many days on the phone talking to children of her friends who had previously passed away. They consider her their surrogate mother.
Helen will be remembered for all things good and especially her love of Pringles and TicTac‘s, word games and her many opinions on life and politics.
