With her family and friends by her side, it is with profound sadness that Irene Carmela D’Agostino of Whitestone (Queens) & Putnam Lake, New York, entered into eternal peace on November 24, 2025, at Salem HillsRehabilitation in Purdy’s, New York. Irene was preceded by her son,Christopher Allen. She is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Louis Mario D’Agostino, and children Louis (daughter-in-law Terry), and Paul, Chief Warrant Officer 4, U.S. Army (Ret) (daughter-in-law Roxanna), and grandchildren Ricky, Specialist, U.S. Army and Amare Mario, as well as her infant great-grandson, Noah.
Irene’s life was defined by unwavering love, care and devotion for the family. One of the most beautiful ways she expressed this love was through her cooking. Her kitchen was a place of warmth, comfort, and tradition, where family and friends were always welcomed, and even the occasion stranger. She also wrote from her heart and the beauty of her penmanship radiated this love to those she corresponded with, supported through the written word. She taught love by example and deeds and was connected to those closest to her in ways hard to comprehend. As a proud military mother and grandma, she saw her son through multiple deployments and grandson, through basic and advanced training. Unquestionably, Irene’s love for family and cooking was inherited from her grandparents, who immigrated from the Messina region of Sicily, Italy, to the United States, in search of a better life for their children. Irene’s reverence for her parents was exceptional, matched only by her lifetime love and dedication to herhusband, children, daughters-in-laws, grandchildren, extended family, and friends.
The D’Agostino family sincerely thanks the compassionate caregivers at Salem Hills who eased her pain and suffering and carefully and patiently cared and comforted her in her final days.
We welcome family and friends to the viewing, which will be on December 3, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Pleasant Manor Funeral Home, 575 Columbus Avenue, Thornwood, New York.
Irene will be laid to rest at her family plot at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, New York close to her beloved mother and father, Theresa and Nicholas Cassisi and near her Aunt Nina and Uncle Thomas and their son, Thomas Pistone. A graveside funeral service will be officiated by December 3, at 1:30 p.m. at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, New York.
Rather than flowers, Irene and Louis would prefer a donation to St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital in Tennessee in memory of their son Christopher Allen.
