Irene (Renie) Koehnken (nee Towson) passed away on July 4, 2022 at the Fieldstone Rehab Center in Valhalla. Born in New Rochelle in 1932, Renie was a life-long resident and active community member of White Plains. She graduated from White Plains High School in 1950 and attended Averett College in Danville, VA. Returning to White Plains, she married Walter Koehnken, an electrical engineer with NY Telephone in 1953. Renie was active in community organizations throughout her life, including the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, PTAs, the WP Alumni association, the WP Arts Festival, and the First Baptist Church of White Plains. She was a past president of the Woman’s Club of White Plains, where she was a valued member for over 60 years. Active in their local neighborhood, Renie and Walt started an annual Block Party that endured for 50 years. She brought intelligence, creativity, humor and optimism to everything she did and engaged and befriended people of all ages with ease. Her brownies and Christmas cookies were renowned and irresistible. Professionally she worked as a bookkeeper, including 20 years at the Eastern Tennis Association. Renie and her loving husband Walt supported each other in their many endeavors, spent summers family camping at Lake George, and travelled extensively after raising their family. She moved to The Knolls in Valhalla in 2018 and until her final days was socializing, quilting, solving Wordle and crossword puzzles with ease and continuing to make new friends. She is predeceased by Walt, and her cherished sister, Leslie Konneker; survived by her son Gary (Debbie) and daughter, Lois Koehnken; five beloved grandchildren, niece and nephew and families; seven treasured great-grandchildren and great nieces and nephews, and her brother Ray Towson. Her absence will leave a void in our lives; her memories will fill our hearts.
