JoAnn (Mancini) Bateman

JoAnn Mancini Bateman, 74, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
JoAnn is survived by her devoted husband of 43 years, David Bateman; her loving daughter, Katlyn Bateman; her sister, Marie Tallevi; her sister-in-law, Maria Mancini; and many extended family members and lifelong friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.

Born and raised in Yonkers, New York, JoAnn grew up alongside her sister, Marie, and brother Teddy, surrounded by the love of her parents, Angeline and Ted Mancini. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Angeline Mancini and Ted Mancini, and her brother, Teddy Mancini.

After graduating from high school, JoAnn attended secretarial school before beginning her career at General Foods and PepsiCo. During her twenties, she embraced every adventure life had to offer, spending countless weekends in the Hamptons with friends, making memories that she would fondly recount for years to come. She had a gift for storytelling, and those who knew her could always count on hearing one of her wonderful stories, often accompanied by laughter.

In 1977, JoAnn met the love of her life, David Bateman. Their love story blossomed, and they were married in 1983. Together they built a beautiful life, first in Sleepy Hollow before settling in Hawthorne, New York, in 1989—a house that would become their forever home and the heart of so many family memories.
In 1995, JoAnn welcomed her greatest joy, her daughter, Katlyn. Being a mother was one of the greatest privileges of her life, and she poured every ounce of her heart into raising her daughter. She was fiercely loving, endlessly supportive, and always made sure the people she loved knew exactly how much they meant to her.
After spending several years as a stay-at-home mom, JoAnn found the creative outlet she had been searching for through interior decorating. What began as a passion became a 27-year career. She had an incredible eye for design and a remarkable ability to transform houses into homes where families could gather, celebrate, and create lasting memories. Even after retirement, her love for decorating never faded, and she continued sharing her talent with those around her.

JoAnn had a zest for life that was impossible to ignore. She never met a stranger she didn’t like. She genuinely loved people and had an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel seen, heard, and important. She could strike up a conversation with anyone—she truly could make a tree talk—and by the end of it, she'd know their story, and they'd know hers. Her warmth, kindness, humor, and generosity drew people to her wherever she went.

She was the kind of person who loved deeply and wholeheartedly. If you were fortunate enough to be loved by JoAnn, you never had to question it. She showed up for the people she cared about, celebrated their joys, carried them through their hardships, and made each person feel like family. She was an extraordinary wife, an incredible mother, a loyal sister, and a treasured friend.

While her absence leaves an immeasurable void, JoAnn's legacy lives on in every beautiful space she created, every story she shared, every life she touched, and in the countless people who were lucky enough to experience her boundless love. She will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and endlessly loved.

Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort knowing that JoAnn's kindness, laughter, and unwavering love live on in the countless lives she touched. To know her was to love her, and to be loved by her was one of life's greatest gifts.

Family and friends are invited to Pleasant Manor Funeral Home, Inc. 575 Columbus Avenue - Thornwood, New York 10594 on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM for visitation.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for JoAnn at Holy Name of Jesus Church in Valhalla on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at 10:00 AM.  JoAnn will be laid to rest at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
