Obituary

Judy Mauser Morriss passed on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 in her 84th year.  Judy was born in New York City.  She graduated from Villa Maria Academy: College of New Rochelle (AB, Speech/Theater); Lehman College (MA Speech and Language Pathology);Fordham University (Cert. in Educational Administration).  In her Senior Year at the College of New Rochelle, she starred in the lead role and won Best Actor Award in the play, "MEMBER OF THE WEDDING," a role played by Julie Harris in the film production.

She was certified and licensed nationally by the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA).  She taught in the Massapequa Public Schools (one year/speech).  Infant Jesus of Prague School, Flossmoor, IL (one year, third grade, and French).  Port Chester Public Schools (three years, seven schools/speech).  Chappaqua Public Schools (31 years, Speech an Language Pathology, Chair of the Committee Education, Assistant Principal of the West Orchard School.  She was greatly respected and appreciated by her teaching colleagues and administrators, students, and student parents.  She was extremely effective in teaching speech and Language Pathology to students on a one-on one basis.  She served for 35 years in education, teaching, school-administering, and serving America's youth.

She was the daughter of George and Julia Brosnan Mauser (Irish-born).  Daughter of a nurse, she was extremely people-sensitive to, and oriented toward, children and the youth, the medically and educationally challenged, and the elderly.  Service, care, and concern were her top priority throughout her life, both personally and professionally.  In her youth she trained in acrobatics and later played 4 years of basketball at Villa Maria Academy.  She was a superb swimmer, dance, chef, and social host, Par excellence.  In the various roles she played in life, both personally and professionally, familywise and every otherwise, Judy was the quintessential "Renaissance woman."  The word "Saint" comes to mind!

She was the wife of John Morriss (61years of Marraige) and mother of Michael Morriss, Julienne Morriss Callaway, John Morriss. Mother-in-law of Jack Callaway and Jackie Morriss.  Materfamilias, Judy was lifetime-dedicated to her children.  Sister of Nancy Rush and sister-in -law of Warner Rush.  Sister-in-law of Kathleen Brassil.  Aunt of Julia Rush, Jamie Rush, Jennifer Rush, Jessica Rush.  First cousins, Maureen Foster Heisinger, Joseph Foster, John Foster.  First cousin, Rose Cox Delaney.  Judy was a dedicated grandmother to seven grandchildren.

She was a loyal parishioner at Holy Rosary Church, Hawthorne, NY.  She was a member of the President's Clubs of Villa Maria Academy, Regis High School, College of New Rochelle, and Fordham University.  She enjoyed traveling to Canada, Argentina, Europe, United Kingdom, Ireland, Iceland, Turkey, Egypt, Vietnam, Thailand, Hong Kong, and Israel.  She was deeply appreciative of the Religious Sisters of the Congregation de Notre-Dame of Montreal and New York (Villa Maria Academy), and of the Ursuline Religious Sisters of the College of New Rochelle, RIP.    Memorial Donations may be made to Villa Maria Academy, Bronx, NY. Family and friends are invited to Pleasant Manor Funeral Home, Inc. 575 Columbus Avenue Thornwood, New York 10594 on Sunday, October 3, 2021 from 2:00 - 6:00 PM for visitation.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Judy at Holy Rosary Church in Hawthorne on Monday, October 4, 2021 at 10:30 AM.  Judy will be laid to rest at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
