Liang Pi Obituary

Liang Pi passed away peacefully on July 9, 2021 at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. He was 36 years old.

Liang lived a wholesome life with love, joy and happiness, and became a respected scholar and a Wall Street wonderboy.  Liang grew up in Yiyang, Hunan Province, China.  At the age of 19, he graduated with B.S. (Highest Honor) in Computer Science from the Special Class for the Gifted Young program at the University of Science & Technology of China.  At the age of 23, he received Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from University of Wisconsin-Madison.  At the age of 30, he became the youngest statistical arbitrage equity portfolio manager at a global quantitative investment fund.  He has received numerous accolades for his academic contributions, including the Best Paper Award of 2008 (1st Author) by IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering.  He was a CFA Charterholder.  Liang was also a gifted singer.  His passion was especially palpable when he sang Chinese folk songs.  He was very well read, and loved discussing wide-ranging topics with family and friends. Liang will be greatly missed as a loving son, caring husband and father, and dearest friend.
