Lise Callaghan Obituary

Lise Eleanor Callaghan(ne. Gazaille), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend to many, passed away peacefully at home on May 1, 2022. She is survived by her five children: Gerard, William, Gladys Driscoll, Christine Schmidt, and Kevin; son-in-law Fred Driscoll and  daughter-in-law Pam Callaghan; eleven grandchildren: Brittany, Brooke, Michael, Timothy, Stephanie, Kimberly, Ryan, Kiefer, Taylor, Sean, and Julia; one great grandchild, Kennedy, and many nieces and nephews.
Lise was born in Montreal, Canada on April 3, 1934. She moved to NYC when she was six years old and lived in the Fordham Manor section of the Bronx where she attended St. Nicholas of Tolentine parish grade school and High School.  She married William Gerard Callaghan(Bill)(deceased) on February 11, 1956 at St. Nicholas of Tolentine Church, and they were married for 49 years until Bill’s passing in June 2005. They lived for the next 20 years in the Williamsbridge section of the Bronx where Lise was a very active member of Immaculate Conception parish and school which her children attended. The family moved to Bloomingdale, NJ in February 1977 and Lise was an active member of St. Anthony’s parish in Butler, NJ. Lise and Bill moved to Whiting, NJ in 1995 where Lise was also active in the local community. After Bill passed away, Lise moved back to Kinnelon, NJ in 2006 where she was a member of the Bloomingdale Senior Center serving as president among other roles, as well as president of the Kinnelon Senior Association. She moved in with her sons Gerard and William in Armonk, NY in 2019 where she lived the remainder of her life. Lise proudly served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years at several parishes. Throughout her life she was involved in many organizations including church and parish volunteer, PTA board member, Marine Corps League Ladies Auxiliary, Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, Cub Scouts, Brownies, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, C.A.R.E.S., various senior citizen organizations, and community watch clubs. In addition to her husband, Lise was predeceased by her mother Eleanor, father Joseph, sister Renee, and brother Gilbert.

A viewing will be held in Butler, NJ at Morrison Funeral Home on Thursday, May 5, 2022 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM and at Pleasant Manor Funeral Home, Thornwood, NY on Friday May 6, 2022 from 8:00AM - 12:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at Church of St. Patrick’s in Armonk, NY on Friday May 6, 12:30 PM. Following the services, Lise will be laid to rest next to her husband Bill, at Gate of Heaven cemetery, Valhalla, NY. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to either Wounded Warriors, https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/, or Toys for Tots, https://www.toysfortots.org/, charities supported by Lise in her lifetime.
