Ljubomir “Ljubo” Peric, 63, died on Friday, May 8, 2020, at New York Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan, New York. Ljubo died from complications from his ten and a half year battle with cancer.
Born January 5, 1957 in Grude, Bosnia & Herzegovina, he was the son of Vencel Peric and Mila (Pezer) Peric. He immigrated to New York in 1983, where he embraced America for the past 37 years, while continuing to honor his Croatian homeland and heritage. Ljubo lived his life helping others, as exemplified by his many years of volunteer service as a firefighter at the Hawthorne Fire Department.
Ljubo was a devoted and beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. But his most important title was “Didi” - used by his four grandchildren whom he loved most and above all. Finding the silver lining in every situation, even in his valiant and prolonged battle with cancer, Ljubo’s zest for life was impossible to ignore by all who knew him.
He is survived by his mother, Mila Peric (née Pezer), wife, Sima Peric (née Maric), brother, Miro Peric & family, his daughters, Maria Penava (Damir) and Ivana Laroche (Matthew), and his four grandchildren - Petra and Bruno, and Jackson and Leo, who were otherwise named by their grandfather as Jakisa and Antuka, respectively.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, there will be no calling hours. Private services will be held, with a celebration of life and mass to be scheduled upon the lift of lockdown orders.
Ljubo’s family is in the process of creating a donation page to honor the doctor who continuously saved his life and gave him precious and priceless time with his family and friends. Private family only funeral services will be held at Pleasant Manor Funeral Home, Inc. on Wednesday, May 13, 2020. Mr. Peric will be laid to rest at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, New York on Thursday, May 14, 2020. His brothers from the Hawthorne Fire Department will be present to commemorate his service to the department and Town of Mt. Pleasant with a final escort to the cemetery.
