Maria Bruno (nee Rogondino) of Pleasantville, New York passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at her residence surrounded by her loving family in her 84th year.
She was born May 28, 1935 in Valenzano, Bari, Italy to Giuseppe and Francesca (née Loconte) Rogondino. She married the love of her life, Pietro Bruno, in September of 1958 who preceded her in death in 2014.
Maria learned to sew as a young girl in Italy and quickly found work as a seamstress in Montreal, Canada, where her parents migrated in 1954. While in Montreal she rose up the ranks to become foreman of a textile/design factory and was the breadwinner of the family. She moved to New York with her husband and daughters in tow where she continued to work as a seamstress.
Maria was a kind and loving mother, sister, and wife. She loved to cook and shared her love of food with her children and grandchildren who couldn't resist her lasagna.
Maria is survived by her sister and husband, Nancy and Nick DeFrenza of Hawthorne, New York, sister and husband Anna and Luca DeBellis of Montreal, Quebec; her two daughters and their husbands, Roseanne and Anthony Laricchia of Thornwood, New York, Franca and Anthony Rizzi of Pleasantville, New York; grandchildren, Brianna, Anthony, Cristopher and Alexander and her many nephews, nieces and cousins in New York, Canada and Italy. All of whom she loved and touched deeply.
Family and friends are invited to Pleasant Manor Funeral Home, Inc. 575 Columbus Avenue Thornwood, New York 10594 on Sunday, March 1, 2020 from 2:00 - 7:00 PM for visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Maria at Holy Innocent's Church in Pleasantville, New York on Monday, March 2, 2020 at 9:30 AM, Fr. Gorman will officiate. Entombment with her beloved husband Pietro will follow at Ferncliff Cemetery in the Rosewood building.
