Mario Saltarelli passed away peacefully in his 96th year on the morning of Monday, February 5, 2024, in Redding, Connecticut. He was born in Tufo di Minturno, Italy, on February 18, 1927, to Giuseppe and Lucrezia Saltarelli (nee D'Urso), and was the devoted husband of Josephine Saltarelli (nee Mazzucco), who predeceased him on February 4, 2018. Mario is survived by his four loving children and their spouses, Mary and Anthony Ferrara, of Congers, NY, Jennie and Gregory LoBasso, of Ridgefield, CT, Virginia and Frank Madonna, of Pleasantville, NY, and Joseph and Lisa Saltarelli, of Wilton, CT, along with nine grandchildren, Joseph, Christina, Frank, Janine, Laura, Alyssa, Jacqueline, Anthony, and Anneliese, and five great-grandchildren, Ella, Lily, Mia, Georgia, and Anna.
Mario and Josephine were married for 65 years and lived in the Bronx for 55 of them. Mario worked as a store manager and in later years became a licensed real estate salesman. He was an avid reader of history, biographies, and newspapers and loved good Italian cooking, but found his greatest joy when surrounded by family. Their “company is the best medicine” he would always say.
Family and friends are invited to Pleasant Manor Funeral Home, Inc. 575 Columbus Avenue - Thornwood, New York 10594 on Thursday, February 8, 2024 from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 - 9:00 PM for visitation.
