Mercia Bernadette (O'Riordan) Kenna

Mercia Bernadette Kenna (nee O'Riordan) of Hawthorne passed away peacefully in her 92nd year at her home on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 surrounded by her loving family.  Mercia was born in Dublin, Ireland to loving parents Thomas and Kathleen on September 14, 1933.  Mercia was a loving sister of Mary (Ciaran) and cherished cousin of Eileen and Josephine.  Mercia was the beloved wife of the late Thomas Kenna who predeceased her in 2003.  They were married in Ireland and emigrated to the United States right after their wedding and built a wonderful and loving life in the USA.  

Mercia is survived by her loving children Jean-Marie (John), Claire (Tom), Maureen, Eileen (Joe), Kathleen, Thomas (Amy) and Deirdre (Luciana).  Also left behind to mourn her loss are her thirteen grandchildren:  Steve, Jess (Nelson), T.J., Daniel (Danielle), Bridget, Riley, Kyle, Madeline, Fiona, Faith, Ciara, Katie, and Luke.  As well as her four great grandchildren: Noah, Jade, Lucy, and Evelyn.  She is also survived by her brother-in-law Ciaran Mahon, her sister-in-law Margaret McCabe as well as scores of loving nieces, nephews and their families across the globe.  She will also be mourned by her many treasured friends.

Professionally, Mercia worked at East Hudson Soccer League and Pace University.  Mercia also volunteered her time with many organizations including: Girls Scouts, East Hudson Soccer League and the Irish American Club and the Ancient Order of Hibernians.  She was a Eucharistic minister at St. Christophers - St. Patrick's in Bucanan.  She knitted blankets for newborn and premature babies in her spare time.  The nun's at Maryknoll in Ossining were fortunate enough to enjoy Mercia's company during her errands they ran together and companionship while she volunteered her time at the convent.  She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.  Until we meet again, God bless. 

Family and friends are invited to Pleasant Manor Funeral Home, Inc. 575 Columbus Avenue - Thornwood, New York 10594 on Sunday, November 9, 2025 from 2:00 - 6:00 PM for visitation.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mercia at Holy Rosary Church in Hawthorne on Monday, November 10, 2025 at 12:00 PM.  Mercia will be laid to rest in her family plot following the mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
