Michael A. Diggin

Michael A. Diggin of Brewster passed away in his 82nd year on Saturday, January 21, 2023.

Michael Cyril Diggin was born in Drumnacurra, Causeway, Co. Kerry in 1940 to Thomas Diggin and Ellen Pierse. He is survived by brothers Gene (Eileen), Liam, and Gerard (Hannah) and predeceased by brother Foncie and sister Margaret (Fin).  Adored uncle of many nieces and nephews. Mike emigrated to the US in 1962, enjoying the Irish dance/social scene popular in Bronx NY.  There he met and married Inga-Lill Jansson, and in 1968 moved to Brewster NY where they began successful businesses as motel/innkeepers, first at Belaire Motel and since 1985 at Heidi's Inn. They raised 3 sons - Thomas, Thor, and Sean (Emlyn), and are proud grandparents of Henry and Ella. Heidi's Inn continues to thrive today under the management of Sean Diggin.  Mike was always a proud Kerryman, active in early years with the Kerryman's P&B Association and remained a faithful supporter of HOPe Charity. The son of a hurler, Mike followed Kerry football, hurling, and camogie. He was mad for tennis, both playing and watching. And he loved cars and driving. You could often find him tinkering with his 1966 Austin-Healy or zipping up to East Durham in his Porsche.  Upon retirement Mike rejoined the traditional Irish music and set dance community where he met his beloved Patti. Always a seeker of growth and self-expression, Mike learned the stories of Eamon Kelly and became a well-loved Seanachai', (Irish for storyteller).  There were not many pubs, stages, or living rooms where Mike Diggin was not asked to tell a story. After his January 2022 performance at Symphony Space NYC, Mike received the Spirit Award from Gaelic Athletic Association's Scor for being an inspiration to the next generation of storytellers.

Family and friends are invited to Pleasant Manor Funeral Home, Inc. 575 Columbus Avenue Thornwood, New York 10594 on Saturday, January 28, 2023 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM for visitation.
