Mika Scarano
1990 – 2021
Thornwood, New York
Mika Scarano, 30, passed away unexpectedly at home on January 7.
She grew up in Pelham Manor, NY, graduated from Pelham Memorial High School, and
attended Westchester Community College and Greenfield Community College.
Above all, Mika will be remembered for the selfless love she spread around to those who needed
it most and for her gentle healing touch. Mika was a lover and rescuer of all types of animals-
from the squirrels she rehabilitated with her neighbor and dear friend Marlene, to the pregnant
cat she found in a Burger King dumpster, and a duckling she saved by stopping traffic on a
highway. And her compassion extended to all people with whom she came in contact, especially
those most pained or vulnerable. Mika was a fierce and protective mother to her cat, Boots, and
her sweet puppy, Cleo, but she also nurtured and cared for her family and friends.
Mika created a warm and inviting home where all who entered could lay their troubles down at
the door and be treated to a delicious meal, wonderful storytelling, and endless laughter. She was
a fantastic cook who lived by the adage that a meal made with love always tastes best.
Mika loved the simple pleasures of life, tending to her garden, a walk in the woods with her dogs
and friends, a good book to read, stimulating conversation, and spending time with the people
she loved.
Mika was a deeply unique and creative soul, who enjoyed expressing herself through art, music,
belly-dance, fashion, and jewelry-making. She also loved the outdoors, the open road, hiking,
and exploring new places, like an undiscovered swimming hole.
There was a magic about Mika that words cannot express, but that everybody who was lucky
enough to know her felt, and was transformed by.
Mika was always unapologetically herself and she attracted and encouraged people to embrace
their individuality. She was a woman of such depth and beauty that others could not help but be
drawn to her.
Mika leaves behind her beloved family and loved ones, as well as many dear friends.
