It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Minerva “Minnie” Muniz, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 31 st, at the age of 85.
Born in Puerto Rico, alongside her beloved sister, Lucy, Minnie often fondly recalled her childhood living with her grandma on their family farm, eating mangos from the trees and the beautiful beach nearby. As a teenager, Minnie moved to New York with her grandma, father, stepmother and sister, Lucy. Minnie shared one of her most cherished relationships with Lucy, who stood by her side through every milestone – joyful or difficult – offering companionship and love throughout their lives that only sisters understand. In NY, Minnie went on to learn English, sang in the school choir, and developed a lifelong love of Elvis Presley and music. Although her childhood had many ups and downs, including the challenges of a blended family, Minnie, her siblings, and step siblings found a way to persevere together. She often spoke lovingly of her brother Mel, whose frequent calls were a source of comfort to her and her sister, Marie, whose connection she treasured.
Minnie met Manny Muniz just out of High School, and together they shared 54 years of marriage until his passing in 2015. They raised four children and built a life on Sedgwick Avenue in the Bronx. Minnie always cherished her ties to her special building and its community where she was not only a resident, but a board member for many years. She simply loved it there.
Minnie worked for many years as a secretary in the Appellate Division of the Bronx County Courthouse where she formed lasting friendships.
In 2024, Minnie moved from her beloved Bronx Building & Community to Willow Towers, Assisted Living. There, she embraced her new community, and their caring staff who became part of our extended family. True to her nature, she could often be found singing the oldies or dancing in her wheelchair, bringing smiles to everyone around her.
Minnie is survived by her sisters, Lucy and Marie; her brothers Mel and Bill; her children, Anthony, Robert, Lori, and Richard; and her 6 grandchildren, Katie, Julia, Victoria, Madison, Anthony and Alexander, along with many loving relatives and dear friends. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Manny, in 2015.
Above all else, Minne will be remembered for strength, determination, her smile, her deep love of her children and grandchildren, and yes, even a bit for her stubbornness. The lessons she taught, and the memories she created will remain in our hearts of all who knew her.
Family and friends are invited to Pleasant Manor Funeral Home, Inc. 575 Columbus Avenue - Thornwood, New York 10594 on Thursday, June 4, 2026 from 2:00 - 4:00 PM and 6:00 - 9:00 PM for visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Minnie at Holy Name of Jesus Church in Valhalla on Friday, June 5, 2026 at 10:00 AM. Minnie will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband Manuel who predeceased her in 2015 in their family crypt at Mount Hope Cemetery in Hastings - on - Hudson, New York following the funeral mass.
Minnie is now dancing with her beloved husband, Manny, and smiling down on us all. May she rest in peace.
