Nancy Boone Curley, of West Yarmouth, MA, passed away peacefully with her family surrounding her on Wednesday, July 1. She chose to forgo treatment for cancer, and was cared for by Hospice at her home on Cape Cod, and then at her son’s home in New York.
Nancy was born on August 3, 1930, in Pompton Lakes, NJ, to Ilsley and Ella Boone. After a normal childhood for the daughter of a prominent nudist, she attended the Woodstock Country School, and graduated from Radcliffe College in 1953. In her junior year, she met James R. Curley, and the two of them married in 1956. In their first years of marriage, Nancy earned a Master’s in Education from Columbia University.
From 1960-1968, Nancy and Jim lived in Turkey, while Jim worked in the US Foreign Service and the Ford Foundation. Nancy earned a degree in Urban Planning from the Technical University of the Middle East in Ankara while living there. She also gave birth to David in 1968.
After returning to the US, Nancy worked as a homemaker, realtor, teacher, dorm parent, and librarian in Pleasantville, NY, Hillsborough, NC, and Greenfield, MA. Their second son, Thomas, was born in 1974. She and Jim retired to Cape Cod in 1997. Nancy was involved in the Harvard Club of Cape Cod, the League of Women Voters, and the West Dennis Public Library.
Nancy is survived by her sons, David and Tom, her brother Bradford, and four grandchildren. Memorial donations may be sent to the League of Women Voters or the West Dennis Public Library.
