Noel Coombs Obituary

Life of Noel Coombs Sr.

Noel was born in the heart of Trench town, Kingston, Jamaica, and was the youngest boy of thirteen children born to Rupert and Evelyn Coombs. Noel was brought to the US in 1975 and was raised by his godmother, Ida Edwards, who brought him up in the strict tradition of the Seventh-day Adventist faith. From a young age, Noel—alias “Boy Blue”, had a deep love for music that set him apart. He spent much of his youth surrounded by local musicians, and that passion never faded. Even in his later years, Noel could often be found washing his car with music blaring from the stereo—his way of keeping the rhythm of his youth alive. Professionally, Noel found his calling as a chauffeur, driving for the rich and famous. His job took him across cities and into the lives of countless fascinating individuals, but it was the driving itself that he loved most. A true car enthusiast, Noel lit up at the sight of a sleek new vehicle on the road. On days off, he often went for long drives with his beloved wife and children, enthusiastically sharing his vast knowledge of automobiles. Noel was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He leaves behind his cherished wife of over 40 years, Lorna, with whom he shared a once-in-a-lifetime love story. They first met in 1977, when Noel picked up Lorna and her brothers from JFK Airport. From that moment, he knew he had met his future wife. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising Noel Coombs Jr., Briana, and Shannon. Noel also leaves behind his grandson, Tyson, who will proudly carry forward his legacy. He is survived by his loving siblings: Rohan, Alfred, Arthur, Oswald, Claudette, Lancelot, Joan, and Richard—all of whom will dearly miss their brother. His memory will also live on through his nieces and nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews, cousins and a host of friends. Noel joins those who passed before him: his parents Rupert and Evelyn, his godmother Ida, his siblings Gladstone, Rupert Jr., and Vivian, and his infant daughter Ashley. While we mourn his loss here on earth, we take comfort in knowing that he is now in the presence of the Most High God and our Savior, Jesus Christ.

May Noel Coombs Sr. rest in eternal peace. His life, love, and laughter will
remain in our hearts forever.
