Rita P Walsh (née McTernan), age 86, of Pleasantville, NY entered into her eternal life on Sunday, June 16, 2024 surrounded by her family.
Rita was born in the Bronx, NY in 1937 to Mary and Joseph McTernan. She was raised in St Athanasius Parish and, later, St Teresa’s Parish with her loving sister Marion (Robert) Baumgartner and brother Joseph (Mary) McTernan.
Rita was married to Michael J Walsh for over 50 years; they raised their three children; Michael (Maureen, née Reilly) Walsh, Maryann (Chris) Musial, and Rita (Peter) Curtin as members of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish. Rita was also the loving Nana of seven grandchildren; Joseph, Kalya, Patricia, Jack, Cara, Luke, and Matthew, who were the JOY of her life.
In recent years, Rita moved to Pleasantville. She was an active member of Holy Rosary Parish, Our Lady of Pompeii Chapel and the Clinton Street Senior Center.
In addition to being a wife and homemaker, Rita worked with the NYC Board of Education for 30 years. She was a lifelong learner and, after raising her children, returned to college to complete both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees which enabled her to become a teacher during the last 10 years of her career. During her time with the Board of Ed until the end of her life, Rita never ceased in encouraging those around her to continue their own education and thereby improve their own, and their families, lives.
