Saundra Ellen Curry (nee Whitney), MD of Chappaqua passed away peacefully in her home on October 6, 2024, after a long battle with cancer. Born May 3, 1952, in New York, New York, Saundra graduated from the Bronx High School of Science, Cornell University and Cornell University Medical College. Saundra practiced anesthesiology at Columbia University Medical Center beginning in 1986, and continued for nearly forty years, into 2024. Saundra was the daughter of missionaries, and spent much of her childhood abroad, including two years in Paris, and seven years in Cameroon. She maintained connections with many colleagues and was frequently invited to speak on medical topics in the U.S. and abroad. Saundra was an avid sports fan. She grew up visiting Forest Hills with her father and sister and could be found at the US Open Tennis Championships in Queens every summer until 2024. She was a diehard Mets fan, a condition she passed down to her son. Saundra was a devoted wife, mother, and family member. She is survived by her husband, Donald Curry, sister, Karen Whitney, son, Peter Curry, and numerous cousins.
Family and friends are invited to Pleasant Manor Funeral Home, Inc. 575 Columbus Avenue - Thornwood, New York 10594 on Sunday, October 13, 2024 from 2:00 - 6:00 PM for visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Saundra at The Church of St. John and St. Mary in Chappaqua on Monday, October 14, 2024 at 10:00 AM. Saundra will be laid to rest in her family plot at The Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla following the funeral mass.
