Shu Hwa Lo

Rhoda Shu-Hwa Lo was born 4/4/1927 in China to her loving parents Rev. An-Hou Liu and Mrs. Nan-Zhen Bei.  Shu-Hwa passed away on Saturday, 11/8/2025.

When she was 3 years old, she moved to Indonesia with her mother to meet her father who was teaching there and when she was 5 returned to China during World War II. She grew up in the shadows of the Japanese invasion but survived with God’s grace.  She married Hao-Ming Lo in Taiwan, 1949.

She immigrated to the United States in 1972 and started a brand-new career as a Housing Social Worker in 1975 until her retirement in 1995.  In her working life, she had helped hundreds of Chinese families with housing assistance and placement. Her caring, dedication, and intelligence had shined brightly and reflected on the successes of court cases of her clients.

Her faith helped her survive uterine cancer, breast cancer, and bone fractures. She learned piano at the missionary and was the piano accompanist for her church for all of her life until the COVID shut down.  

Of course, her six children, ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren were her pride and joy, as she was to them.

Family and friends are invited to Pleasant Manor Funeral Home, Inc. 575 Columbus Avenue - Thornwood, New York 10594 on Thursday, November 20, 2025 from (times to be announced) for visitation.  Shu Hwa will be laid to rest in her family plot at The Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, New York following the services at Pleasant Manor, we will arrive at The Kensico Cemetery at 1:00 PM.
