Simone Micela

On March 9th, 2024, Simone Micela at the age of 88 years old passed peacefully from this world in the comfort of his home in Thornwood, New York. His final hours were spent surrounded by his loving family who was the biggest love of his life. His life started in Italy, more precisely Sicily, where on the 29th of June, 1935, in the small farming village of Sciara the world welcomed Simone. As a young man of only twenty, he bravely ventured to America to start a new life as a longshoreman. It was here he met his devoted wife Carmela (née D’Amico). In 1961, they were married in the Bronx, where they raised their four children. In 1996, Simone moved with his family to Thornwood in Westchester. There he built a beautiful home. A home where Simone could tend his garden, and as he watched his tomatoes grow, so could he watch his growing family gather together to make memories. Precious memories like making the annual jars of tomatoes stand as a testament to the amazing life Simone built in America. A life and legacy where old-world traditions through his hard work and sacrifice thrive among his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Truly Simone achieved the American dream. Simone is survived by his wife Carmela, their children Francesco, Antonino, Maria and Guiseppe and their respective spouses, Petra, Maria, Anthony and Gina. The legacy and memory of Simone Micela also lives on through his grandchildren Jennifer, Simone, Christina, Anthony, Nicole, Jack, Sam, James, Jaclyn and Matthew and through his great-grandchildren Isabel, Giovanni, Kaylee, Kenneth, Vincenzo and Carter. Despite the heartache they feel in losing their cherished father and Nonno, they have faith that in his eternal life Simone watches over them in full health as he tends his heavenly garden. There in the fullness of time he will one day be reunited with his beloved family.

A visitation is scheduled at The Pleasant Manor Funeral Home in Thornwood on Monday, March 11th from 4:00 - 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial at the Catholic parish of Holy Rosary in Hawthorne, New York shall take place on Tuesday, March 12th at 10:30 AM. The dearly departed will be interred directly after the funeral mass at his final resting place of Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, New York.
