Sophie L. Wasilewski
November 23, 1927 - February 10, 2026
Sophia Lucille Wasilewski, a resident of Hawthorne, NY, peacefully passed at her home at 98 years of age on February 10, 2026. Her wonderful life began in Turners Falls, MA in 1927 when she was born to Polish immigrants, Paul and Josephine Milewski. She experienced all the joys of a large family having 12 siblings.
She met her loving husband, Edward, at a New England wedding. They married in 1949 and she moved to Bronx, NY, where he resided. She was most proud of being the Mother to their 6 children as well as Grandmother/Great Grandmother to 28 grandchildren.
She had worked as a telephone operator before becoming the Matriarch of her grand family. She was very passionate about volunteer work for various organizations throughout her life. She so enjoyed being a member of the Rosary Altar Society at her Church, Holy Rosary. Her hobbies included decorating, baking, and sewing and she looked forward to her many trips back to her hometown to be with her Massachusetts family.
Raised during the Great Depression, she learned the importance early on of faith and trust in God and prayer before all things and being resilient. A true inspiration to her family and those who knew her, she was an extraordinary, compassionate woman with the most beautiful heart and soul. She lived for her family and will live on in our hearts forever.
She is survived by her cherished children, Edward (Grace), Paul (Concetta), William (Lucille), Mary (Gary), and Anne (Nick). She is also survived by her many grandchildren/great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward; son, Michael; grandson, Gary; and all her siblings.
Special thanks go to Hospice of Westchester Northwell Health for their compassion, comfort and care.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Sophie at Holy Rosary Church in Hawthorne on Friday, February 13, 2026 at 10:00 AM, officiated by Fr. Sebastian. Sophie will be laid to rest after the funeral mass alongside her beloved husband Edward who predeceased her in 2020 in their family plot at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
