Grace TaiHuei Lin was born on March 10, 1952, in Chiayi, Taiwan, to her loving parents, HaoMing and Rhoda ShuHwa Lo. Her life was defined by quiet strength, devotion to family, and a deep, steady faith. She passed away peacefully at the age of 74.
Grace graduated from National Taiwan Normal University with a degree in English, while working as a secretary for Pastor Charles DeVol at the Friends Church and at his botanical research laboratory at National Taiwan University. During this time, she met her husband, ChienHsiang (“James”) Lin, on a school field trip. They married in Queens, New York, on Thanksgiving Day in 1978.
Grace and James later moved to Missouri, both attending the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, where Grace earned a master’s degree in Sociology. As James began his diplomatic career with the Taiwan Representative Office in the US, Grace unwaveringly supported him while raising their daughters, Shirley and Vivian. Grace nurtured her children through many transitions, teaching them adaptability, patience andresilience, as the family moved many times between Taiwan and the United States. James’s work took them to Boston, Kansas, California, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Thailand. When Vivian’s studies brought her back to New York, Grace settled in Flushing, close to her mother and siblings.
Grace’s greatest joy was becoming “Waipo” to her grandchildren, Daniel and Ellie. She cherished every moment with them.
In January 2025, Grace was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. With her family by her side, she faced every challenge with grace, bravery, and quiet determination, qualities that had defined her entire life. She passed away on April 1, 2026, at NewYorkPresbyterian Queens, with her husband by her side.
Grace is survived by her husband, James; her daughters, Shirley and Vivian; her beloved grandchildren, Daniel and Ellie; and her siblings Joyce, Dian, Albert, Hsing, and Kenny.
A celebration of her life will be held at Pleasant Manor Funeral Home on April 9, 2026.Burial will follow at Kensico Cemetery on a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be made in Grace’s memory to NewYorkPresbyterian Queens, whose remarkable physicians and staff supported Grace with exceptional care and compassion.
Family and friends are invited to Pleasant Manor Funeral Home, Inc. 575 Columbus Avenue - Thornwood, New York 10594 on Thursday, April 9, 2026 (times to be announced) for visitation. Tai Huei will be laid to rest in her family plot at The Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla.
